I'm blown away. No band ever comes to New Zealand, and if they do they all go to Auckland. These guys are going to Wellington!!!! About freakin' time!

Pfffft. We can see those blokes any day. In fact, I hang around with New Zealand comedians most days. But seriously, Smashing Pumpkins, dude. Plus, there is also rock to wellington but I kinda got put off it from how much they're dramatizing it.

Oh Nirvana, one of my grand bands, one of the very few I listen to on a daily basis and haven't gotten sick of.

Though I find Alice in Chains more appealing as a whole

I only touched the Grunge stuff a few months back and only looked at a few bands but those I did (Alice and Nirvana) have stuck

Why the hell would anyone attack him? Since when did being a goth become a prerequisite for making a goddamn thread? Okay, it's a gothic site, but plenty of people here aren't remotely goth. I happen to like Nirvana. Last really big band who made decent music IMO.

I saw The Smashing Pumpkins last week in London. Are they still playing Europe? I would love to see QOTSA. Josh Homme is awesome!

<-- Fan of Kyuss

And yeah, Alice In Chains > Nirvana any damn day, any damn time.

Don't know if they're in Europe, but they will be in New Zealand for Easter week. Josh Homme is okay, but I can't wait to see Mr Grohl on his drums once more.

Agreed.
Layne Staley is KING. Kurt doesn't even come close in my eyes.

That's awful bold to say there's been no decent musicians since way back then.
Though it is your opinion.

Oh, I'm not saying there's been no good music since Nirvana. I'm saying that IMO, they were the last band with such massive popular appeal, adored by musos and schoolkids alike, who made good music.

Mmm. I must agree by saying that hip hop and scenemo do nothing for me. I'd think grunge would be somewhat more alive here, just thirty minutes from Seattle.

I completely agree! Nirvana's music has rawness and honesty I don't hear that often. My favorite song is "Swap Meet" I think.

Even if the pack decides Nirvana is the worst of the worst, I'll never change my mind about how much that period means to me.

I like Nirvana, and I don't think anyone should be attacked for liking them. Just because this is a goth board it doesn't mean that people on here are only only allowed to like bands that are gothic.

I don't like Nirvana, but I can play the riff to Come As You Are because it's easy as piss. It's a nice sound.

Nirvana is just one of those bands that you either liked or you didn't. I would be curious to see what Cobain would have came up with if he had not killed himself, how his music would have adapted to the times.

Nirvana were alright, but let's be honest here. If Kurt did not kill himself, his music would seem as pertinent and relevant as Eddie Vedder's. Nirvana was made a sticking point for the early 90's out of an gunshot, not out of music that would have otherwise faded away.

So can I. Doesn't mean a band isn't worthy of discussion - if that was the yardstick, the music forum would have like eight threads.

I don't know about this - I agree that Kurt's suicide assured them a cast-iron place in the hearts of angst-mongers everywhere, but, putting that aside......... I do think it's decent music, for what it is. It may not be AS big, but I'd like to think it wouldn't have faded entirely.

No, it would still come on the radio in the way that you think "Shit! I totally forgot that I loved that when I was 16!". it would still be played on the 1993 segment of VH1's "I Love the 90's" with Michael Ian Black lampooning it instead of a bunch of 13 year olds grousing about how Nirvana's music impacted them and how they "felt" Kurt.

Christ, that'd be like me "feelin'" John Lennon. Save that Lennon's music held up and Nirvana, save one or two songs, sounds as stale as Courtney Love's snatch.
