yemen - 8 year old girl asks for divorce
http://yementimes.com/article.shtml?i=1145&p=front&a=2
This is worth a read. It is the most shameful, barbaric thing that this girl was forced into this situation. I am amazed at the strength of spirit she has shown to try to rectify it. This girl is tough, no doubt about it.

This reminds me of my High School...I live in a predominately Muslim area, and I can't even count the number of girls who got married in High School to 30 or 40 year old guys. It's seemingly a common practice in Islam.

Bloody hell, that's ridiculous...
Go her for sorting it out though, she shouldn't have to, but it's admirable to see someone so young stand up for themselves when noone else will.

That little girl is the bravest person I think I've heard of in a long while.

She really is the bravest little kid ever. She had to endure so much especially when she shouldn't have to. I'm glad that she stood up for herself. That man who married her is seriously messed up. Couldn't get a girl for himself so he has to go **** an 8-year-old kid.

Wow. I don't understand how cultures force people into marrying someone else. Props to the little 8 y/o. I have no idea what I would do at 8.

That's disgusting. What's wrong with these people? Why the hell would you be sexually attracted to an eight year old?
I feel like puking.

Just fantastic, you've got to give the kid kudos. I'm freakin' elated at the outcome of it all, It's so good to hear stories of youths beating the odds.

Poor kid! I can't imagine the horrors she had to go through. I hope she gets sent to a home where she can be loved and just be a little girl again.

I hate hearing that young'uns are forced to marry older men, It's sick!
But to hear the things the husband does to this child is absolutely disgusting. The fathers and mothers should not allow this to happen to their children. They should burn in the very depths of hell for doing this to their own spawn.
fucking sick!
This girl is very brave. I hope other girls look up to her and make a stand.

She is an incredibly brave young girl and, even though I'm sure a translator has a bit to do with it, she seems quite intelligent and well spoken

Just to be a dick, I'm going to point out that eight is old compared to their prophet's youngest wife.

Awww... she's so cute in the photo!
I hope it all gets sorted out and she gets at least some of her childhood back. I'm glad she had the strength and audacity to go to the court alone. I hope it sets a precedent.

One of a million cases. I'm glad the little girl is free now... when I was travelling through India I witnessed a lot of cases similiar to this.

There was a movie I saw about an 8-year-old Indian widow who had to live in a widow-house with a bunch of old ladies. It was a very upsetting movie.

This isn't too surprising, I mean Muhammad the prophet in their religion was married to a 6 or 7 year old girl, she stayed in her parent's house until age 9 when they consummated the marriage.
