Dumbass trolls.

I have been noticing recently that a large influx of annoying ass trolls have been clawing their way onto the forums.

This may be a pandemic.

Isn't there some way of banning them? Blocking their IP address or something?
I mean, it's pretty sad when repetitive pointless posting takes the place of something important like Karma or discussions on politics.

I know the old rule "Don't feed the trolls." But even when we don't, they come back spewing their filth over and over again.

Anything else we can do other than ignoring them?

How do you even know that? Hardly ANYONE ignores them and until they give it a go, they have zero right to bitch about them. Apparently people's boredom threshold rises when they think they're being oh-so-clever. Unfortunately, most of them aren't.

I've just been discussing the idea of "unbiased" mods - typically hard to find. Mainly because you need people who don't have an ego.

And by that, I mean people who aren't on the internet to prove anything, or whore their profiles, get attention or generally show everyone how cool they are. You need people who understand how people think, and can ignore personal comments and concentrate on the heart of the issue at hand. People who will examine the issues and decide on a fair course of action whilst balancing the needs of the site with the expectations of the users.

In short, a professional, or maybe someone who's studied martial arts properly, or psychology or some other discipline that allows them to rule their egos.

Also, I haven't been here for a while, but last time I was, I seem to remember since the site changed hands mods where in short supply, period. Let's face it this site only really exists to drive hits to adverts anyway :P

IP bans are pointless, trolls on here are people who ENJOY trolling. If you enjoy something you tend to get good at it, and most hardcore trolls seem to know how to proxy their way across websites to hide their IPs. You'd just end up excluding people who want to use the site.

What you need, as the above poster stated, is a strong, mature, reactive mod team.

I'm a Mod on another site, too (ancient history discussion board), and used to Mod three other sites that I no longer am involved in. I fully admit that I'm biased -- but I think in a good way.
