Welcome to the site. Eisenstein definitely made some interesting propaganda pieces. Gotta love Nevsky.

@PinstripesAndPithHelmets
Thank you!
Aleksandr Nevsky was the one that got me hooked on Eisenstein.
I love his pathetic style of propaganda - not as clumpsy as the stuff that came later.

@jack_the_knife
Danke! Diese Community scheint mir sehr interessant.
Darf ich so neugierig sein und fragen was Dich hier her gebracht hat?

Oh - and by the way. I wondered about naming "Goethes Erben" and if there´d be anyone here who could possibly know about the band and its lyrics. Didn´t expect to meet ppl from Europe here.

I would rather translate y´r nickname as s th like "Sanguiner Geist". Has some nice n arrogant ring about it.

"... mental schwache User" means "mentally weak/feeble users" - And I know what he means.

I'm new here as well, but welcome!!!
How strong are your translation and writing skills?
I just finished a novel and was actually considering translating it for the German market. Would I need to? It seems a lot of German people speak English.

Hallo Utho, Ich liebe dich!!!

Okay, just joking. I love your taste in music. I have 'Metropolis'. (Studied film history.) On the German side, my favorite author is Hermann Hesse, filmmaker is Lenie Riefenstahl, my favorite composer is Handel, and favorite food is Viener schnitzel, cookie is pfeffernuesse and my all time favorite dessert is vanille eis mit heisem himbeer sose. (If my spelling is awful, just bite me. I was stationed in Germany a long time ago and I have forgotten most of it. However, I would be grateful for the opportunity to improve).

Wilkommen.

I have relatives in Germany, and great grands that speak German fluently, but live here.
I plan to visit one day, but I'd need all sorts of money to survive my visit. (I can't very well look up my relatives and say "Sie haben mich nie getroffen, aber ich bin Ihr Verwandter von Amerika. Ich bin mit Ihnen durch die alte Dame verbunden, die einen Tiger als ein Haustier hatte. Ich weiß, dass dieser Teil der Familie sie nicht mochte, aber ich nicht sie bin, so möchten Sie mich. Ist es ganz richtig, wenn ich in Ihrem Haus bleibe?") I probably just butchered the German language...
Anyway, welcome to G.net!

Again thanks for the warm reception!
(Nochmal danke für den warmen Empfang!)

@metatrondarkangel
I am very much a writer, translation comes somewhat within.
Generally I would tend to recommend considering translation - if aiming for some spread on the german market. There are very few ppl in Germany that take interest in reading foreign-languaged stuff.

@Jaye Jang
Du schmeichelst mir!
(Y´re flattering me!)
You´ve studied film history? - Cool! Did you hear that some more missing scenes of Metropolis were discovered this year, and that they are re-doing the movie to fit them in?
Leni Riefenstahl is somewhat of a sensitive topic.
If I would have - just for example - mentioned her "Olympia-Film" amongst my favourites, I would have given evidence of having comitted the german equivalent of what americans call "federal crime". The olympic movie and all her other works are blacklisted - and highly illegal in Germany.

Hey and I love Wiener Schnitzel. - Practically the only thing I can manage in the kitchen - when it comes to producing digestable food.

@Duane
Danke für das nette Willkommen!
Let´s use the more appropriate term of "Du", "Sie" I am only to ppl I wanna piss off.
Wenn Du Fragen hast, helfe ich gerne. Mein Englisch war auch mal schlecht, und Englisch ist einfacher zu lernen als Deutsch.

@Sanguine Mind
lol - I like ego in a person

@GothicChristian

Europe is expensive, due to the Dollar/Euro thingy.
But if I were you, I would really re-consider contacting them remote relatives of yours.
(Ppl like to have things to brag with, relatives from america that re-appear are such thing.)
You could "bridge" this old "chasm" - and maybe in doing so create yourself some sorta "base" that could be fairly beneficient to your budget y´d have to consider for a trip.
When you do not approach them too shitty or selfish, it may be a (positively) interesting experience to your relatives - and you may even be able to represent the US in a positve way. So, this could be "win-win", when approached with care.
When you get to go, try to catch the Wave-Gotik-Treffen (WGT) in Leipzig; I believe the largest event of this kind.

@Steppenwolf

@All
I see the sub-culture we share as some sort of family of wolves, but foremost as sorta family of choice. So, when there is an interest amongst you, I am willing to help you with improving your German (curse-words).
You are helping me with my English.

Utho, Das wahr sehr net. Sicher, ich danke Ihnen. That is unfortunate about Leni. I was able to see some of her earlier prewar films here, particularly her mountain climbing movies, which are actually quite beautiful. I also saw the interview where she pointed out that she did not make the Olympia film willingly. (You did not go up against Der Fuehrer as a lone artist at that time, and live to tell about it). However, on a more cheefrul topic, I forgot to mention one of my favorite German artists, Sulamith Wuelfing, who is absolutely amazing. Auf wiederhoehren.
