Fashion DIY tips and gratuitous plugs. And hair. Hair! Flow it, show it. Wait...no. That's some hippie musical. Nevermind. |

how true is that. I'm going to a music festival overloaded with bands as such. They just need to get rid of the crappy ones and put some real goth bands in it then the festival will be perfect with everything from pop punk to punk, to hardcore, to goth and metal.

Yerr.
There's pretty much no deathrock/goth scene where I live.
So i get it a lot.
I also get called a punk a lot.
I think being called a punk bugs me more than being called emo.

I don't think there's any real reason for it.
But I get called punk to my face a lot more.
But I think it's just an unfounded annoyance.

Bah Emos are soooo anoying! And scene kids, scene kids took the big hair, and beacuse of that, so many people here (where I live) think The Cure is just a scene/emo band! AGH! It makes me so mad!
I have been mistaken for a emo/scene kids so many dreadful times. But i prove them wrong every day that I dont slit my wrist =)
Emo/scene kids are just the bastard children of goth/punks...bleh>.<

I find that lately people want to call me emo when I am in my lazy clothes. Black t and jeans and black shoes. It is annoying. Rather entertaining, but still annoying.

People used to call me emo a lot. I am pretty much the only goth for miles around, so it makes sense that they wouldn't understand the difference. Oddly enough, the emo comments mostly stopped when I started wearing boots instead of converse. I have this one pair that I almost never take off. People sometimes ask me if they are stuck, and would I like some help.

So, you aren't mistaken for an emo. You are called an emo out of spite. When, oh, when will the hell ever cease?

I've never been mistaken for an emo, but there was one time that a German sniper started taking pot shots at me because he thought I was a '14-era British officer. I blame the overcoat. Come to think of it, I probably shouldn't carry a swagger stick either....

Why bother?!
That's just showing it's getting to you.
Smile, nod and say some smart-ass comeback that will leave them speechless.
That's what I do.

Screw the preppy girls, be yourself that's the best thing you can do. No matter what, being yourself is a lot better then pretending to be something your not.

Nope. Besides 'goth', I've been called 'beatnik' or 'weird 80's throwback'
but never 'emo'.

I find it extremely uncomfortable labeling myself as anything. I don't know how people can do it. I mean, I tell people what I like in music and then they'll try to base of an assumption off that, but then here I am wearing dark destroyed levis and band shirts with goddamn sandals and two toned colored hair. They get confused if I'm not wearing all black, or black makeup all the time, or the super zippers and d-rings and knee high boots.
Granted, I was like that when I was younger. I had a full wardrobe and everything. Hell, I still have my knee high boots. But I don't know, I just feel too told for all of that. I still love the goth culture to bits and everything still mesmerizes me, but I'm too much of a busy person to make sure my eyeliner is perfectly straight all the time.
Just my two cents!

LOL. what a tard, if they really knew about emo, they would know that real emos don't wear makeup. I believe a few sketchy teenagers thought the makeup those Gawfs were wearing was cool and decided to make it 'emo' .. . oh dear.
And yes, I get called emo all the time .. . .because here in Perth none of the bogans know about Goths, Metalheads, Punks, or Scenes, and just call anyone who wears black an 'emo', and say they hate emos. I generally agree and say, "Yeah, I hate Emo kids too. They're a whingey bunch" and walk off. It works.

Honestly i have to say, i've joined this site for not even 15minutes and i already know i joined the right site, THANK YOU FOR ACKNOWLEDGING THIS SITUATION!!!
I get called emo by frigging mainstream preps and retarts all the time!!! atleast once every week. then i tell them im goth and they'll ask what teh difference is and i go into a huge lecture on the obvious differences. i dont see why its any of their buissness to begin with.
and its not just me, its the music too! this moron on my buss called the band Evanescence emo which makes no sense whatsoever bacuse they don't even sing emo music. they dont even look emo in teh slightest bit.
i hate it so badly >.<

Closer to emo than goth. Seriously get over your hatred of the mainstream and preps, goth isn't about being bitchy and elitist, it is about gothic music, something you honestly don't seem to know much about.
