I have read the entire Twilight series. Here is how I see it.
Bella- she is whiny, dependent, and annoying
Edward- basically the same, but he also is too damn protective
Jacob- was the only person I was okay with, but is still stupid for pining for Bella
They all annoy the fuck out of me. I'm glad I read the entire series so that I know the entire reason of why it mostly sucks.

The theatre is the one taking the loss, most likely.
It's definitely not her, though.

I haven't read any of them but I can tell you why it sucks.
Because it's a shallow superficial reworking of gothic/romantic vampire themes that have been over exploited for at least the last 100 years. And what makes it worse is she markets it to the average reader (ie: morons) who aren't even aware of that and they go on ranting about how good she is and think she's done something new. Lastly, she's allowed hordes of tween readers to declare themselves "goth" just because they read it, sympathized with the protagonist and instantly went out and shoplifted some black nail polish to announce their newly found goth status.

She also glorifies abusive relationships and women having no goals other than being with men.

My girlfriend is reading the series. She hates it, but her friends won't leave her alone till she's finished (they're nice, but not particularly sophisticated when it comes to literature). Apparently there's a single kiss that goes on for FOUR PAGES in book three.
Luckily, I bought her Neil Gaiman's "Graveyard Book" for her birthday. So that's taking the edge off.

I tried reading the book, back when no one had heard of it, and gave up a couple of chapters in. Bella is very whiny and irritating, and Edward is essentially something like a Gary-Sue with fangs...

This piece of shit should be burnt. Every copy blown to fucking smithereens and then taped so that the fans of Twilight with their hand in their pants jerking off over the tepid romance have nothing to jerk over anymore. Fucking hate this book. I read the first chapter, that was enough for me, my friend kept going on about it like it was a goddamn masterpiece, vibrant and searing romance and all that bullshit. Ridiculously bad book.

hell yeah I agree with you. This Twilight fad is pissing me off

I guess that's the reason why is so popular ... I've never seen a popular book/film about any normal , decent strong female character without "her" man telling her what to do , how and when . Or without a famous father/relative ex-boyfriend being her shadow ...
Women can't be never exist alone or have reasons of her own .

Today all of the girls in my Spanish III class started going on about how great Twilight is.
I actually walked out of the room.

Not only your friends.
I suffered that a lot, lately.
After they watched it, it's admiring time!, which is even worse.

Oh dear god...
I think I shall become somewhat of a mole for the next few weeks and just try and hide in a hole so they can't rant about it to me.

Almost everyone I know is obsessing over it.
Once, I was reading The Plague by Albert Camus, and this girl comes over to me and starts reading over my shoulder, then says "Oh, this is so boring, you should read Twilight." I swear I almost smacked her in the face.

UNLESS we are talking about the movie. You know those disc-box sleeves can be pretty tempting.

How could a disc-box sleeve possibly compare with a banana peel?!
