IRC? Anyone?
Howdy fellows,
Is anyone on IRC here, or know of any good IRC channels with pertinent and interesting conversation?
I'm curious, as I'd love to get back into IRC.
Cheerio!

If Ophelia played lots of mmorpgs and didnt know what irc is then I would be surpised, but she doesn't, so I'm not. IRC is the chat meathod of choice for the majority of mmorpgs out there with few exceptions due to it's simplicity which allows it to be customized for specific games. Most mmorpgs for example have commands that you can type in like /joingroup which serves a rather self explanitory purpose.

Well its not only mmorpgs who use it, there's a vegan channel I use a lot for when I'm cooking (so if I have a cooking question there's someone who will know) and a few forums have IRC channels, but yeah its completely understandable if someone hasn't heard of it.
And yeah a #gnet would be neat.

Well yeah, I just mentioned that example because of how hard it is not to know about it if you play mmorpgs. It's a nice, simple, efficient little chat system. Frankly there is somthing to be said for chat rooms.
Back years ago when the internet was becomming cheaply available to everyone chatrooms provided unorganized, pure, social interaction. Unfortunately now days the internet is becoming organized, and everyone is becomming isolated like in the real world, restricting themselves to password protected areas for a few select people to access. Thats one of the things I love about mmorpgs and irc, they're still pure and unorganized, but in a new way entirely, in a way that allows people to express their interests rather than simply talk about them allowing for even more social interaction. I wonder what the world would be like if people still interacted like that in real life.

I used to spend hours on various IRC channels. germanbash.org was my favorite.

Yeah, but what does that have to do with the price of tea in China?
