White Zombie, the old version of Treasure Island that originally was in black-and-white but was subsequently colorized (if that's even a word), The Man Who Would Be King. I'd say The Road Warrior, but I don't think it's quite old enough to be called Old Timey. I also love the old spaghetti westerns.

Now that I think about it, I don't think Treasure Island was originally black and white. Either way, I love that movie when I was little.

I'll cast my vote for Kismet released in 1944, starring Marlene Dietrich.
This movie was released during Hollywood's Golden Era and if you can overlook the Henna Dye used to make Caucasians appear Hindu, this is a lovely movie.
I enjoyed this version much more than the later released Musical version of the film.
I'll also include On The Beach released in 1959 with Gregory Peck, Ava Gardner, Fred Astaire and a VERY young Anthony Perkins.
The Movie is based on a novel written by Australian author Nevil Shute
It's set in Australia after a Global Nuclear War that killed off almost everyone in the Northern Hemisphere. The remaining World Population has been told that all life on Earth will cease to exist in a matter of months.
It's a VERY dark movie for when it was made. I can't think of another film from that time period that came anywhere near exploring the harsh and desperate aspects of the Human Psyche when faced with their own mortality, as this picture does.
It's Sad and Fucked Up and Beautiful..
Those are my two contributions for now..

Whoa!!! You like White Zombie too???? Damn good movie, should be in every Lugosi lover's movie cabinet!
I'll have to add Mad Love and The Phantom of the Opera(silent version, Lon Chaney,Sr.) to the list.
And, yes, Santarea I fucking-love Noferatu. Especially with the TON background music.

Yeah, my dad bought it on VHS for something like three dollars. I found the tape when I was cleaning around the T.V. one day. Nothin' says lovin' like somethin' from the oven! Unless, of course, that something is zombifying the object of your affection to prevent her from falling into the hands of the man she actually loves.

Another favorite of mine is The Gods must be Crazy and The Gods must be Crazy II
They're old movies but damn funny. If you've never seen them go out right now and rent them.

You should look in the dollar bins in your local store or movie plex.
That's where I found my VHS of Phantom of the Opera.

Wolfmoon, is that the 1925 version of `Phantom of the Opera` with Lon Chaney, that film is fantastic, lon Chaneys make up is amazing in that film.
Do you know where you can get Nosferatu (with the Type O Negative soundtrack) ?
I`ve been looking for that version of the film for ages .

The library is where I found one copy, so it might be worth checking there. So rather than spend money I found another way of aquiring the video. But I like it much better with their music replacing the original.

To be honest, my "favorite old-timey movie" is definitely The Good Old Naughty Days. It's a series of 12 short movies from the start of the twentieth century. It's a black and white silent film, only thing you can hear is a piano playing..
And, yes, naughty says everything - it's a quite funny porn movie. Imagine it yourself, the start of twentieth century and there is absolutely no sense of shame at all.
I don't watch porn, but this is just something you've got to see. Even if you don't want to see it twice. Once is sometimes enough.
Other than that - Anything from Alfred Hitchcock.

I would have to vote for Gone With The Wind. I loved the movie, but not as much as the book. I read the book in 6th grade and absolutely adored it. In 7th, I read Scarlett.. I loved that one even more. Perhaps it was because I liked the outcome. You gotta love happy endings.

Metropolis (1926)
I have seen several versions of this film, one of the most interesting was the version by Giorgio Moroder (music producer) who re-edited the film to a new rock music score.
"In 1984 (appropriately enough for a science fiction event), Giorgio Moroder produced and composed the music for a spiffed up re-release of "Metropolis." Though it caused many serious students of film to blanch, it remains a cult film, and the one most often to have introduced people to the land mark 1926 film.
Moroder restored and scored Fritz Lang's classic silent film with songs such as "Here She Comes" by Bonnie Tyler, "Love Kills" by Queen's Freddy Mercury, and "Cage of Freedom" by Jon Anderson. But it is his own atmospheric use of synthesizers and evocative sound effects which flesh out the effective underscoring."

I just thought of two movies that I'd love to get on dvd.
Mad Love (1935)
Peter Lorre
I actually had to look this one up cuz I forgot who was in it. Am I the only one who finds Peter Lorre sexy?
D'oh!
Oh, and
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex(1939) is on DVD!!! Last I'd heard this movie was out of print.
You get Arryl Flynn(?) and Bette Davis in the same movie? Score!
So excited. Seriously, if you love old movies this is some romantically-funny shit.

The Black Cat
Starring: Bela Legosi
Boris Karloff
Honeymooning in Hungary, Joan and Peter Allison share their train compartment with Dr. Vitus Verdegast, a courtly but tragic man who is returning to the remains of the town he defended before becoming a prisoner of war for fifteen years. When their hotel-bound bus crashes in a mountain storm and Joan is injured, the travellers seek refuge in the home, built fortress-like upon the site of a bloody battlefield, of famed architect Hjalmar Poelzig. There, cat-phobic Verdegast learns his wife's fate, grieves for his lost daughter, and must play a game of chess for Allison's life. (Summary taken from Internet Movie Database)
"Do you know what I`m going to do to you now herr Poelzig, have you ever seen an animal skinned ?"
