Sorry
I always think about that word. I understand pretty well what it means, but what do we normally expect when someone apologizes?
Do you expect, understanding, change, empathy, reimbursement?
I personally just expect understanding, and a change from the behavior, but I never ask for reimbursement, or empathy. I feel that would be a forced apology.
What do you expect from a person when they apologize?

I also expect understanding from the person. An understanding of their actions and the effect it had upon me or others around them. I also expect that they will try to change their actions and attempt not to do it again in the future.

I expect that whatever they did, they don't fucking do it again. I hate it when people repeatedly apologize for the same offense...

I don't really expect a lot, usually. I think that word gets tossed around off handedly so much that I don't really even think about it.
If I do think about it, I'd probably expect change or understanding.

Hollow promises and a whiff of their gratitude at thinking that tehy have gotten away with something. I get leverage, they get a false sense of security

Just to understand what they did wrong =\ I guess, or why it hurt the person...

I don't know if understanding is enough. Sometimes people do get why you are upset, but persist in doing it. Perhaps I am happier for that, because I see who they really are.

I completely agree. I don't want people to understand what they did wrong or why I'm upset nearly as much as I just want them to realize they shouldn't do it again. Then I don't want to talk about it anymore.

Yeah, I don't really like to talk after I get a hand job, either.

And nothing says "I care" like a flaming bag of ferrets left on someone's front lawn. Those kids at PETA just don't understand...

Apologies are used too lightly in my opinion. I expect the person to actually feel sorry.
