Has anyone here read Seaguy or We3 by Grant Morrison?
Very original comics, and really off-the-wall, especially Seaguy, which is also hilarious. And We3 is just terrifying. It looks like this one might be made into a movie, which I have mixed feelings about!
They are both very short series - just three issues each- but well worth reading if you want to try something different.

Other than many that have been mentioned in the thread already and most of what@s published by Vertigo, I loved the "Lonewolf and Cub" manga series.

I've not read comics regularly in a very long time.
My favorite was Dr. Strange (although he had quite a dull garment). I don't even know if this comic is produced any longer.

But you read Gloom Cookie, don't you? I mean, since you have Vermillion as your avatar. I hope you don't identify with him or anything, though. God, what an ass. Perfect parody of a pathetic wannabe poet with delusions of über-gothic grandeur.
I've been reading through the Preacher albums lately. Borrowed them from a friend. I've just finished the 7th, Salvation. So good. Totally sick, but really well-written, wicked funny and incisive (the tribute to Bill Hicks in one of the stories should be an indication of some of the attitude this comic has); and the art is fucking beautiful. At times really disguisting, too, in the way of what's portrayed.

Oooh. I like Sin City. A Dame to Kill For is my favorite. I hear that they're making another film, and this one will contain the rest of the shorts from Blue Eyes.
Watchmen by Alan Moore is very worth reading, too.

I was wondering what the general consensus of the forum was with regard to the gothic comic "Gloomcookie". I like parts of it, and then some of it I feel is absurd (the adolescent banter is the part I am not fond of).
I have not thought about Groo the Wanderer for a long time, but how could anyone not like Groo?

a hard question to answer. I love the sandman sieries as well as the x-men during the age of apocalypse but there are so many others that i hapen to like......so many choices

man i was surfing around looking for some quotes for a maxx piece i'm doing and stumbled on this thread and HAD to register just to post to it! heh.
made me tingle all over to see some of you have read lady death, evil ernie
and faust! (some twisted intense stuff there!! loved it!)
myself, i've gotta give it up for (just to name a few):

arkham asylum (dave mckean's work on this one was stunning!)
sin city, dark knight returns and ronin by frank miller
the watchmen (i may have to dig those out and read em again!)

ghost in the shell (the first storyline) by masamune shirow
ANYthing by jhonen vasquez!!
i don't think i saw anyone mention yummy fur by chester brown or
stray bullets by dave gibbons.
i totally LOVED stray bullets!

I really love the artwork of Dave McKean. For humour, Sadist by Dom Morris which used to be in Deadline, always made me laugh. Did anyone else ever read that?

I've been reading Asian comics for years(manga and such) but just recently got into European/Western comics. Yet only very little. Could anyone recommend me some good series? Action bang bang stuff doesn't interest me very much, but something else? Usually comics like X-Man don't pull me in

I *adore* Nausicaa in the Valley of the Wind (by Hiyao Miyazaki, the same guy responsible for Kiki's Delivery Service, Spirited Away, etc.).

Nothing like the abomination that was the Movie. Very dark and full of rabid irony.
Sin City (Frank Miller)
Stark, beautiful, gloriously gloomy
Johnny the Homicidal Maniac (Jhonen Vasquez)
Twisted and Funny..
Lenore (Roman Dirge)
Equally twisted, also funny.
The Crow Books (James O' Barr)
WAY better than anything after the first movie hoped to be, and what the first movie was based on. Exquisitely inked. Brilliantly penned and inked.
These are all better in the Graphic Novel format.

I never read comics much. I could always find something better to do with my time.
But I did always like reading the punisher comics and x-men were also my favorite.

Ghost Rider, black leather on a motorcycle and a penetrating stare.
Cry for Dawn, good writing with plenty of absurdity and outstanding artwork.
J. O'Barr, nice and haunting with tragedy and restrained wrath.
All Verotik comics, Glen Danzig is outstanding with his company and the fight against censorship.
