Haven't ever really bought any comic books, mainly just browsed through them at the city's 'pop culture' shop. Lenore and the Sandman comics look appealing to buy though...
In the case of manga, I'd have to say Battle Angel Alita.

I liked Jill Thompson's Scary Godmother, at least the one I bought, My Bloody Valentine.
I bought all the Sandman in book form. Only real comic of those I have is a #8 Limited Edition. My friend had many of them but gave them away when she became a nun. I wish she'd given them to me.

I'm a Spawn junkie, but Hellspawn is on my best comic list. McFarlane should have made that series go longer. I also like Darkness for some strange reason. But when I eventually get my comic published (working on the copyright) I hope every one here picks up a copy and lets me know what they think.

I'm a lifelong Marvel fan and happen to be particularly fond of the X-men- Wolverine in particular. Did anyone catch the "Origins" story arch in "Wolverine & Deadpool" last year? Good gravy, I was NOT expecting that plot twist!! *refuses to spoil it for the uneducated*
I'm also a diehard Ed McGuiness fangirl. The artwork on Deadpool is just so perfect for the character.
As for more edgy material, I'm a fan of James O' Barr's (A fellow Irish-man!) artwork for 'The Crow' graphic novels and Frank Miller's "Sin City".

I enjoyed Witchblade for quite some time. I also liked Sin City, but my favorite is absolutely "MotU: Icons of Evil". Yeah, pretty childish, but hey, I watched MotU a lot when I was a kid.

Oh my wickedness, how could I have forgotten the old "V for Vendetta"? One of my absolute favorites, much deeper and somewhat darker than the movie. I truly, madly, deeply recommend.

Hellblazer is my top favourite... John Constantine is one of the best ass-kickers in comics. The fact that he regularly pisses off Lucifer and the group down below in devious ways makes it even more fun. I loved the way he tricked the Guy Down Below into removing his lung cancer. The story of how that is done is much better than what is condensed into the movie 'Constantine'.
Hmmm, what else?
"Sandman" - Neil Gaman is fucking brilliant. His novels are even better than his comics.
The stuff John Byrne did for Dark Horse - "Next Men" and "Danger Unlimited"
"Doom Patrol" - the stuff by Grant Morrison
"Invisibles" - Grant Morrison creates the ultimate secret agents story.
"Preacher" - Garth Ennis of 'Hellblazer' creates a better story a billion times more brilliant than the Da Vinci Code about what the hell God is up to and the bloodline of Jesus. The story arc where he encountered the group protecting the bloodline and his eventual meeting with the heir of Jesus was hilarious. Also Cassidy was, in my opinion, one of the best all-time vampire characters.
"Watchmen" - Alan Moore
"V for Vendetta" - Alan Moore
There were also quite a few Dark Horse series I liked: "Give Me Liberty", "Hellboy" and the best, "Grendel". Also there was a great series called "Shadow Empires" which has had it's name changed to "Iron Empires" (some RPG is using the setting, so the books have been reprinted under a new title).
Also, "Poison Elves" by Drew Hayes... all the stuff he self-published before Sirius Comics picked up his title and the quality went downhill afterwards. When he self-published, he didn't have to meet deadlines, but when he had to meet deadlines for Sirius, his stories went to crap.

You probably don't know him, even in Belgium most people have no idea who he is, but I adore Servais' comics. I even stole my nickname from one of his comics: Iriacynthe is in fact a pretty but rather dangerous fairy. You can find his comics in English too, so if you ever have a chance to read them, don't hesitate!
