Favorite Quotes
I figured there should be a favorite quotes thread. So therefore I make one. What are some of your favorite quotes?
Here are a few of mine:
1) A true friend stabs you in the front.
-Oscar Wilde
2) As flies to wanton boys, are we to the gods; They kill us for their sport.
-William Shakespear
3) But, truly, I have wept too much! The Dawns are heartbreaking. Every moon is atrocious and every sun bitter.
-Arthur Rimbaud

I have a ton, but here are a few:
"You have to be yourself. Be very open and honest about who and what you are. If people still like you, fine. If not, that's their problem" - Sting (I think?)
"Lord, what fools these mortals be." - Robin Goodfellow a.k.a Puck
"People want to know why I do this, why I write such gross stuff. I like to tell them I have the heart of a small boy--And I keep it in a jar on my desk." - Stephen King
"I cried as cameras caught my eyes, my tears turned into butterflies" - The Format. That quote... holy crap it's just amazing how that relates to me. After my sister died, the American Heart Association donated a tree to be planted at my sister's school in her memory, with a nice little plaque right by it, and at the ceremony when it was planted, channel 2 news decided they wanted to do a story on it. So they came, with their cameras, and the one thing I remember most about the little 30-second segment that aired that night, was a shot of me, watering the tree, and I was crying. Right after the tree was done being watered we released butterflies, a symbol of my sister's free spirit and it just made me feel better, I finally stopped crying. When I heard this lin in a song, it was just amazing, like I said.

"It is only shallow people who do not judge by appearances"
"There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. Books are well written, or badly written"
"Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months."
"I have nothing to declare except my genius."
"Never speak disrespectfully of Society. Only people who can't get into it do that."
"There is no sin except stupidity."
"I can resist everything except temptation."
All Oscar Wilde's; all quotes I use in life.

Oh, and we can't forget the 20th Century most underrated philosopher: Snoopy.
"My life has no purpose, no direction, no aim, no meaning, and yet I'm Happy. I can't figure it out. What am I doing right?"
"Sometimes when I get up in the morning, I feel very peculiar. I feel like I've just got to bite a cat! I feel like if I don't bite a cat before sundown, I'll go crazy! But then I just take a deep breath and forget about it. That's what is known as real maturity."
"To live is to dance, to dance is to live."
"Why can't we get all the people together in the world that we really like and then just stay together? I guess that wouldn't work. Someone would leave. Someone always leaves and then we have to say good-bye. I hate good-byes. I know what I need. I need more hellos."
"Yesterday I was a dog. Today I'm a dog. Tomorrow I'll probably still be a dog. Sigh! There's so little hope for advancement."

"Only as high as I reach can I grow, only as far as I seek can I go. Only as deep as I look can I see, only as much as I dream can I be." - Karen Raven. It rhymes and becuase of that reminds me of Dr. Suess a bit, but I like it.

Your phrases show a lot of egotism.
Luckily that's a virtue for me.

I have never made but one prayer to God, a very short one: 'O Lord, make my enemies ridiculous.' And God granted it.
Voltaire
It is forbidden to kill; therefore all murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets.
Voltaire
Judge of a man by his questions rather than by his answers.
Voltaire
Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call on her tribunal for every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear.
Thomas Jefferson
Enlighten the people, generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body and mind will vanish like spirits at the dawn of day.
Thomas Jefferson
Every nut who kills people has a Bible lying around. If you're looking for violent **** imagery, the Bible's right there in your hotel room. If you just want to look up ways to screw people up, there it is, and you're justified because God told you to.
Penn Jillette

All right, do you mean from his Sonnets? His plays? The letters he wrote to his mum? And doll, if you like Shakespeare (and golly, who doesn't?) you may want to learn how to spell his name. The man, be he real or conspired, deserves that much.

More lovely quotes:
Yesterday we obeyed kings and bent our necks before emperors. But today we kneel only to truth, follow only beauty, and obey only love.
Kahlil Gibran
The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.
Winston Churchill
Individual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinder critics and philosophers of today - but the core of science fiction, its essence has become crucial to our salvation if we are to be saved at all.
Isaac Asimov
Part of the inhumanity of the computer is that, once it is competently programmed and working smoothly, it is completely honest.
Isaac Asimov
Any fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius-and a lot of courage-to move in the opposite direction.
Albert Einstein
Considered logically this concept is not identical with the totality of sense impressions referred to; but it is an arbitrary creation of the human (or animal) mind.
Albert Einstein

There are these two quotes I absolutely love. I'll try to translate them:
"La muerte llama, uno a uno, a todos los hombres y a las mujeres todas, sin olvidarse de uno solo -¡Dios, qué fatal memoria!-, y los que por ahora vamos librando, saltando de bache en bache como mariposas o gacelas, jamás llegamos a creer que fuera con nosotros, algún día, su cruel designio." -Camilo José Cela
TRANSLATION:
"Death calls, one by one, to all men and to women all, without forgetting one alone - God, what a fatal memory! - and those who, for now go free, jumping around like butterflies and gazelles, never come to believe that it were with us, someday, its cruel destination." - Camilo José Cela
