| Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

The Cure's "Siamese Twins" makes for a pretty good mopefest. People keep telling me how they can't listen to it because of how horribly depressing it is, but I love it for some reason.

I listen to something angry to take out my own anger at. Like maybe Metallica, Murderdolls, Linkin Park, Taking Back Sunday, or Breaking Benjamin. Soft songs just infuriate me in that situation....

As everyone knows by now, I'm a Silent Hill geek. When I'm depressed, I'll usually listen to "Room of Angels," "Tender Sugar," "Your Rain," "You're Not Here," "Letters from the Lost Days," "I Want Love (Studio Remix)," "Magdalene," "True," "Promise," "Null Moon," "Please Love Me Once More," "Never Forgive Me, Never Forget," and a score of other uber depressing SH songs.
And if I'm not in the mood for SH music, I'll listen to Amethystium, Enya, Kitaro, Yanni, Sarah Brightman, and a host of other ambient-trance bands/artists because the music helps soothe me, and makes me feel a bit calmer.
Or I'll just pop in some Beethoven or Gregorian Chants.

Apparently I am the only person who is somewhat offended by the implication that all goths get depressed and listen to some sort of music to deal with it. I can't really recall the last time I felt depressed as opposed to just sad, and it's been even longer since I listened to music to complement or deal with that type of mood. I'm not criticizing people who use music as a coping mechanism, only the implication that we are all depressed.

I don't think it was really implied that only goths do this. It's a pretty common practice.

Alanis Morissette. Such hatred toward my sex, it borders on ascetic catharsis.

Meh. Different things. Depends on how depressed I am. If it's really bad, like HORRIBLY bad, I listen to...Good Charlotte, mainly their first album. I don't have any idea why, because under other circumstances I don't listen to them, but that's what happens when I'm completely, horribly, utterly depressed.
Then there's David Bowie, but I listen to him all the time. Though, it really helps when I'm depressed.
I listen to Marilyn Manson, too. When I'm pissed off, "You and Me and the Devil Makes Three" is great.

I listen to Opeth a lot. I use to listen to Sigur Ros. But they have no anger. It makes me feel better when there's more energy in he song.

Wolfsheim and Gary Numan.
Nothing says 'depressed' like listening to Little Invitro on loop!
I find that listening to really down music works as kind of a catharsis- I feel bad, so I put on sad stuff, so I get lost in the music, so the sadness becomes beauty, so I feel better.

Angry? Linkin' Park, DMX, Disturbed, Breaking Benjamin, Fort Minor, Story of the Year, 30 Seconds to Mars, Against Me! and even some Sisters of Mercy. Select songs of course.
Sad/depressed/mopey? Certain songs by Nightwish, Josh Groban (Remember When it Rained on a dark, lonely day is destructively therapeutic), Loreena McKennitt (Dante's Prayer can make me sad even when I wasn't), Enya, and a few other singles by other artist, that I can not recall.

When mopey, any sad and mopey lyrics will do me just fine.
When angry, a little bit of Fear Factory and Laeatherstrip will do.
When depressed, some nice wonderful Switchblade-Clown and such by name might hold me over.

Nothing ensures the continuation of depression like My Dying Bride. "For my fallen angel" in particular.
Try and ignore the video and just listen.

I tend to listen to Emilie Autumn's 'Mad Gir' or 'Swallow'. If I'm really looking for something to cheer me up though I listen to the Curxshadows' 'Eye of the Storm'.

When I am depressed I like to try to listen to happy songs to cheer my ass up. That means usually something poppy, like Erasure's Oh L'Amour. Or something horrible that I can laugh at, like Bon Jovi.

Amphetamine Logic if I feel like being mopey.
If I want to be happy, Bob Marley.
