I agree with Mon Coeur Noir. Dealing with people who have Down Syndrome can become a very sticky situation. They already have people helping them. Only people like this girl can date and even get married but not have children of course. So don't go on the guilt trip. She'll be just fine and just don't pick up the phone.

How about, if you answer the phone and it's her, say "Hey it's great to hear from you but I'm just about to run out the door.." or some variation.. And hang up.. Within 30 seconds.. Every time she calls. If she realizes what you're doing and calls you out, say "You're right. I hate talking on the phone but I don't like to hurt anyone's feelings."

Retarded people make me uncomfortable. I don't know how to deal with them. I don't like children for the same reason.

Retarded people make me uncomfortable too. I never know what to say to them. Something about them gives me the creeps. And yes I do realise that they can't help being the way they are!
