Yeah, some infections can kill you. If it gets to some vital area...
Your body can fight off most common infections, but there are some that still require amputation, even with modern medicine. That's if they're in an amputatable spot.

First of all, you shouldn't use peroxide on puncture wounds.
Secondly, if you go to a piercer and it's sterile and you take care of your piercing....your ear WONT fall off. !
People are silly.

The most likely infection for a piercing is Staphylococcus.
If that get's anywhere near a vital organ you're completely boned.
The skin will heal around infections too, causing them to be trapped within the body - they just spread within the body without any really visable effects.
You can be guaranteed if you keep it in, it's going to get infected, because there was bacteria on both the needle and the thread.

Glad to hear you decided to take it out, it's almost certainly the best, and healthiest decision.
As to the smell of gangrene, I'm glad I already ate dinner. Remembering the smell of putrifying flesh is always enought to ruin my appetite. No I haven't smelled a gangrenous wound, but I once found the rotting carcass of a deer in the woods and got a little too close. *gags*.
What is necrotizing faciitis? I assume from the "necrotizing" part that it's some form of flesh decay, but what kind?

Yeah, I wikipediaed it last night. Made my skin crawl. *shudders*
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Necrotizing_fasciitis
Necrotizing fasciitis or fasciitis necroticans, commonly known as “flesh-eating bacteria,” is a rare infection of the deeper layers of skin and subcutaneous tissues, easily spreading across the fascial plane within the subcutaneous tissue.
The infection begins locally, at a site of trauma, which may be severe (such as the result of surgery), minor, or even non-apparent. The affected skin is classically, at first, very painful without any grossly visible change. With progression of the disease, tissue becomes swollen, often within hours. Diarrhea and vomiting are common symptoms as well. Inflammation does not show signs right away if the bacteria is deep within the tissue. If it is not deep, signs of inflammation such as redness and swollen or hot skin show very quickly. Skin color may progress to violet and blisters may form, with subsequent necrosis (death) of the subcutaneous tissues. Patients with necrotizing fasciitis typically have a fever and appear very ill. More severe cases progress within hours, and the mortality rate is high, about 30%. Even with medical assistance, antibiotics take a great deal of time to react to the bacteria, allowing the infection to progress to a more serious state.

I like how your asking for help from people who dont know you, because it makes it easier for people to understand you instead of just knowing how you act, but as people have said before, dont self mutilate for any reason, just go get it done profesionaly, and school wise, if they see it they will throw you into a mental ward, its viewed as alot worse than cutting because its alot more visible, and it actually pulls the skin instead of cutting the skin, it is again viewed alot worse, my personal suggestion take it out and try and ask for some help from either friends who actually care and/or a councler at your school, they keep it confidential as long as you dont continue the self mutilation thing. they are there as your friend not an adult who wants to put you away, trust me I used to have the same issues but me and my councler actually hang out alot. yeah i sound like a total geek but hey, anyone who listens to the same music i do has to be cool. so yeah look for some help. its bad and addicting like any drug, and its addicting because of the adrenaline, and the sight of blood is some how addicting to the human brain its like a phetamine, grabs hold and doesnt let go.

Therapists are required to tell your parents and call Child Protective Services if you're a minor who has been exposed to abuse at any point in your life. Seeing as I'm the friend you mentioned earlier, that is true. My father was arrested but bailed out, I had to recieve inpatient care and talk to several Social Workers, and undercover cops were supposedly watching me and my neighborhood.
Therapy helps, depending on how you contribute. I've been on several medications. A few have helped but they eventually lost their touch.

LaBelleDame, might I have your IM?
I would post more information here, but I'm far from comfortable discussing it.
Therapy has never been a help to me simply because I don't trust them.
I told several therapists about how my father mentally/emotionally abuses both my brother and me, and how he shoves my brother, but nothing was ever done. My mom is also rather emotionally abusive..
Fucking hell.. I need to get out of my house.
