And? Death Metal is generally a step down in standards from Thrash. Slayer is bad for thrash. It's obvious that a shitty Death Metal band will usually suck more than a shitty Thrash Metal band.

It's practically written in stone that a Death Metal vocalist has to sound like the Cookie Monster. There are more varieties of Death Metal, however, all of them are shit.

I never got into Death (the band) or Morbid Angel or as I already pointed out, Cannibal Corpse *shudder*. I was more into the grindy death, Carcass, Bolt Thrower, Napalm Death etc. I don't listen to a lot of straight death metal, and I do agree with Mond that there's a hell of a lot more good thrash bands than there are death bands. And brutal death is just terrible. Wannabe goregrind bands with less original riffs. Yawn.....

To avoid getting into a tedious argument over riffs etc, I'll just point out that 90% of death metal bands have EXACTLY the same guitar sound.

I agree with JCC in the sense that I enjoy Slayer. That being said, my knowledge/love of metal extends to only a few bands so I don't have much to compare Slayer to.

I have a general hatred toward Thrash and Death Metal. It makes my brain hurt and that's about it. I've spent many evenings with metalheads getting headaches and having to drink a lot to drown out the hideous sounds.
I don't care how complicated the riffs are or how good the guitarists are, it all sounds like the same rubbish to me.
It's all about Drone Doom and Depresive Black Metal \m/

I can't believe I stopped listening to Apocalyptica for that Lil' Jon song with freakin' slayer in the background. First thing in the morning that I listen to tends to get stuck in my head.
I stopped listening to slayer when I was 17, and that's when I stopped caring about them. I get what Portraitofsanity means about the same riff over and over, though.
