I just looked up Emo, and it actually does stand for Emotional, but it is true that it originates from the hardcore punk bands. That is what confused me.
I got severely owned in this thread, and I shall withdraw for now until I have updated my knowladge on all the genres I am ranting about.

Edit: Looking this up, I arrived at the conclusion that even though the music of Evanescense and bands like it have nothing to do with Emo, they do classify as Emo as far as the modern definition of the emo genre goes as by far the most of their songs are about broken hearts and pain. So I was partially right.

A band's genre is determined by playing style more than lyrical content. For instance, Ensiferium and Amon Amarth both sing about the same lyrical themes, in this case Vikings, but have different playing styles. Because of their different playing styles, they are in different genres.

You would better off saying that Evanescence has emo influences, than to say they're in the emo genre.

No, you weren't. By the same notion, if I form a crunkcore band that happens to have a song about a medieval Cathedral, is my music gothic?

I just realized that Anarasha misspelled "knowledge" in the thread title...

It is quite appropriate though.. 'Know ladge'. i.e knowing how to state some utter idiocy no one will listen to and then run like hell.

You're such a fucking blathering moron and repugnant waste of life that, when measured against the spite and fury you stir in me, my malicious feelings for xjin seem barely more than the desire to take her out to dinner at a nice restaurant, pick up the tab, and walk her home. The shit about which you care is so trivial, so utterly insipid and meaningless, and yet you can't even manage to know anything about it.
Emo doesn't fucking stand for 'emotional'. The term originated with, and is endemic to, melodic early post-hardcore featuring lyrics relevant to self-pity and aborted interpersonal relationships, also known as 'emocore' or occasionally 'emotive hardcore'. To call Evanescence emo because it might be considered so by the 'modern definition', a 'definition' grounded in the misconceptions of obese ignoramuses like yourself, is in no way even remotely different from calling Evanescence-- or Marilyn Manson, or Nightwish, or shooting up high schools-- goth.
"Most of their songs are about heartbreak and pain"? Moses, go fuck yourself. Most country songs are about heartbreak and pain.

Well, I speak of what I read from my research.
If it is indeed incorrect, I shall accept it.
First off, I would however be eager to see some actual believable sources on this, and I will research it once I feel that I have time to do so.
My current source is Wikipedia, and yes, I do know that it can be incorrect, and I did take that into account as to how I mentioned that it was only as far as I read. My intentions on this second post of appearent fail was only to discuss and possibly be enlightened. I got more than what I bargained for though, as I managed to invoke the wrath of gothicusmaximus, thereby triggering a deliciously wordy and amusing flamerant.
As for what I actually think of the information you posted, I believe that it is likely to be true, and I will consider it in my further studies, and thereby I accept this fish-enhanced bitchslap and crawl back into my corner.

Second, would be the misspell of the title.
It is old habit. I have always had something about misspelling knowledge, business and sentence. Even today, when I am tired, they may turn up as knowladge, buisness and sentance. I am aware, and I apolagize.

http://www.emotivehardcore.com/ will that count or do you want something official?

Edit: Okay so I took a look at the source that you are claiming and even Wiki is saying that emo = emotional hardcore or emocore so even going by your own source you are wrong. Dude you suck.

Well, I read the Danish Wikipedia, and at the bottom it said that modern day emo was emotional music. Feel free to check up on it =) But yes, it also said the things about emotive hardcore, and I never denied that.

Updated information on my fail:
I just re-read the part about emo supposedly being emotional, and appearently, it was under the category of dilemmas about the meaning.

Something to remember about Wikipedia: It's a general encyclopedia. While it can go in depth on certain topics, it is only meant to be a reference. If Wikipedia says one thing, and someone who is knowledgeable in the field says another, trust the knowledgeable person first.

Damn it now I really want toaster strudel but the weather is way too nasty to venture to the store, perhaps I will make berry crapes and see if that takes care of the craving.

Wow! I kinda liked that. Except for that, a few other comments and the great Gothicus rant, this thread stinks of FAIL.
