It really isn't, they take an issue and go out looking for information that proves their point. Sometimes they find interesting information, sometimes they find stuff that really isn't all that valid if viewed in context.

Prostitutes do offer a valuable service to society. The can offer companionship and sex to people who may not be able to get it otherwise, or people who aren't really interested in, good at or wanting relationships.

Legalizing prostitution and regulating it can give sex-workers protection under the law so that if they are attacked or *****, they can have legal recourse without having to fear prosecution themselves.

Not so, prostitutes are abused where its legalized as well. Legalization won't stop violence against sex workers, when 22% of johns think that once they pay, they can do ANYTHING to the prostitute and 12% thing its impossible to **** a sex worker. The essay I mentioned to Ben talked about a case where a prostitute accused a man of ****, and the judge merely charged him with the theft of goods. Sex workers are not respected or cared for and thats the real problem. Look at other sex workers like strippers and porn stars who also are regularly abused, legalization alone does not protect them.

Sweden has it legal on the books to sell sex, but not to buy it, because they view prostitution as a form of violence against women and children, and its not a completely inaccurate view. In principle I'm not against porn or stripping or prostitution, its not them I have the problem with but just how normalized abuse against them is.

I'm actually in whole-hearted agreement with this. When women (I say women because I haven't heard there are comparable concerns about violence and abuse when men are sex workers) are protected and respected, sex work can be a valid and fruitful pursuit. But the institutionalized acceptance of abuse makes it clear that the matter of legality is not the only issue that must be addressed.

Some people think that they can't **** their wife either... I don't think its this attitude is limited to prostitution but shows us that there are people out there who don't respect the rights and bodies of others, regardless of profession or relationship.

So I'm agreeing with you for the most part.. I'm just saying that these sorts of disgusting attitudes aren't limited to johns and prostitutes.

This is why when I say I believe that a majority of men need some degree of re-educating, I am stunned speechless that I get responses from pro-feminist women saying they don't believe a majority of men have a problem. (And yes, I do believe some women need re-educating too.)

There are a few studies that show abuse is also pretty common for male sex workers, there just aren't as many of them and like their non sex worker peers they are much less likely to officially report any abuse.

I have seen that where brothels are legal as long as the management is good most of the sex workers are actually fairly happy with their jobs, especially where the prices are standardized and dependant on the specific service. It all comes down to the perception that you are paying for a service and not that you have bought a person.

Where have you seen that? The only state where its legalized is Nevada and they treat their prostitutes horribly, they control when they're allowed to leave brothels, if they can have children living with them and if they can even own a car. The brothels pretty much own them.
