Atheists Should Apologize!
For Hitler, according to the Catholic League:

Hitler, Stalin and Mao were all driven by a radical atheism, a militant and fundamentally dogmatic brand of secular extremism. It was this anti-religious impulse that allowed them to become mass murderers. By contrast, a grand total of 1,394 were killed during the 250 years of the Inquisition, most all of whom were murdered by secular authorities.
Why should atheists today apologize for the crimes of others? At one level, it makes no sense: apologies should only be given by the guilty. But on the other hand, since the fanatically anti-Catholic secularists in Britain, and elsewhere, demand that the pope—who is entirely innocent of any misconduct—apologize for the sins of others, let the atheists take some of their own medicine and start apologizing for all the crimes committed in their name. It might prove alembic.

Not to mention, aren't they still working on getting around to apologizing for all the priests rraping children and the church not doing anything about it? Or is this a poorly veiled and even more poorly constructed attempt to distract everyone from that?

Let me make sure that I have this straight. The Catholic League believes, since some people wants the Pope to apologize for the actions of some Christians, that atheists should also apologize for some Christians. And for people who have killed in the name of communism, as well.
So... is this a joke without a punchline, or a punchline without a joke? I can't tell.

This has to be some sort of sick moment where the Nazi Pope has an extremely forgetful moment. I'm certain that the Vatican withdrew all their support from the Catholic German Political party prior to the extreme rise of Hitler and gave it to his party, which included funding him and all the works.
Just wondering, did Catholic British soldiers turn a blind eye when they shot Catholic German/Italian soldiers or vice versa?

As an atheist I have to say that I'm sorry...that there are people who are that FUCKING STUPID in the world.
"Sins committed in the name of atheism"...just what is the "name of atheism?" People like the author of that editorial can't stop thinking of it as some sort of partisan fight between dogmas. I don't know why they can't get it through their thick skulls that atheism isn't a dogma or a philosophy, it's just the rejection of God.

Honestly... That's fucking dumb. In fact, asking for a group of people to apologize for the actions of others is down right silly.
I see no reason for the Catholic CHURCH as a group of people, should apologize for anything. They should just apologize for anything they have done in their lives for now.
Basically, I'm not responsible for the actions of Mao or Stalin. Besides, those people didn't die because they rejected atheism, they died because of more political reasons.
People need to learn that Atheists don't really consider a lack of faith to be a theological or religious stance.

Quite simply, dawkins is a dick, but he's the dick we need right now.
I mean think about it, for 2000 years Christianity spread by the sword. A couple hundred years ago they would've just murdered Dawkins. Now is really the first age that they can't and these arguments need to be made.
