I am absolutely livid about the government shutdown. It's bad enough that I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out how I'm going to eat, but could you imagine being in Afghanistan and not recieving a dime, while congress sits on it's ass?

Just heard that about congress not passing the bill and them having to temporarily lay off 8,000 public servants - that sucks. It's a shame that all the people who are going to be paid by that bill, can't go on strike.
I bet if it was the politicians who didn't get their salary, it would be passed in an instant!

The politicians won't get paid until the budget is passed, the thing is that everyone will still get paid for any work done and those in power have enough money that having to wait to get paid isn't a problem.

Congress and was supposed to get keep getting paid, while 3 million civilians and the entire military were supposed to hope they had something in savings to last until they got back paid while still comming to work instead of looking for a new job. That was partly why I was so angry.

Well they ended up reaching a compromise just in time so everyone gets paid but I was under the impression that the only reason why Congress had no worries about not getting paid was simply because of how their pay schedule worked out. Everyone knew that someone would cave before more than a couple of days had passed. Keep in mind the people who were really stalling knew that they weren't going to get what they wanted and really just wanted to make a fuss and get attention.

Another reason to be angry. I didn't think they'd seriously do it, but it was still childish.

It was close (and it's still not done yet ... this is just an extension.) The two sides had come to an agreement on numbers except for one thing - the Repubs were insisting on defunding Planned Parenthood based on the small percentage of their functions that includes abortion (I thought those were legal?!? - /sarcasm.)
Oh, and they initially sent a bill on that Obama had no choice but to announce he would veto, so they could put on a public show about how the shutdown would be the Dem's fault.
I'm still not sure how that's playing out, but this bill they just signed is an extension for only 6 days.
And the Planned Parenthood issue will now be voted on as a separate bill.

My sister has become an arch-conservative jesus-freak over the last couple of years, and now every other Facebook update is a jaw-clenching rant against the teachers unions in Wisconsin, the commie spend-whore liberals in congress or the indignity of having any part of her taxes pay for abortions or gloating/bitching about elections.
I increasingly have to bite my tongue. Most everyone in our family had pledged to keep facebook non-political but that's all gone to hell in a handbasket ... and most everybody else is liberal. I can't unfriend her and I can't talk any sense to her, but ignoring her posts is becoming increasingly difficult so I don't know what I'm going to do.

Not so sure about that. There are some radically different opinions out there, particularly among the Tea Party folks.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/...20052409.shtml
Remember, the Repubs were willing to let folks on unemployment go for weeks without any checks (I remember watching as my benefits were coming up for an extension renewal while they refused to sign a deal for over 3 weeks, leaving some folks with no income.)
My SO at the time went weeks without money, fell two payments behind on her auto loan and had to pay late fees, NSF fees and interest when she did get the money. Plus it damaged her credit rating some more. But these guys in Washington are insulated from all that.
If they think they can credibly blame the shutdown on the Democrats, there is a percentage of these people who will go there.
And it's possible that we might be able to count on the Democrats to cave before it goes on too long ... but is that REALLY what we want?

If you hover the mouse over the right hand side of someone's post, a box should come up saying wether you want to hide that person. Just click to hide her and her stuff won't come up in your feed, yet at the same time she is still on your friends list. I've got a few people still on hide who were being a bit annoying.

THIS THIS THIS. I think you just need to hit the X button and that'll come up. When deleting a friend is too political, hide their status feeds. They'll never know.
My rant: Job market is sucky. I miss being independent. Found out crush is four years younger than me. GAAAAAH.

This. Feels. Weird to me. I actually feel guilty for spending that much money at Target. I haven't made a clothing purchase like that in YEARS. And especially from a big name retailer like Target. I feel a little dirty.

Can you return them?

My sister has been bitching at me to pierce higher up on her ears for about a month... I finally pick up the jewelry and we do one set, and start on the second. She flips fucking balls and starts crying and hasn't stopped. It's 45 minutes later. Shut. The. Fuck. Up.

I accidentally came out to my super religious mom as an atheist.... stupidity ensued... I love her, but damn.. when you try to bring up an analogy that involves pixies making rain... and why a good natural explanation is better.. being asked "how one knows water evaporates..." really brings home how faith can blind. :'(

Fuck sleep aids, this is the second night in a row trying these things and much like last night I'm having a worse time getting to sleep than normal, only tonight I really don't feel like tossing and turning in bed all night so while Jake sleeps peacefully I decided to come check out what is going on with you bitches.
