Dark Interior Design
I searched for this and was disappointed to not find much out there. I spent my weekend redoing a room. It came out quite dark if I do say so myself. I went on a few trips to the local thrift shops (duds... didn't find a single thing in any of them) and Dollar stores (Scores of great candle holders and picture frames). I hit the clearance racks at Target and Wal-Mart and yes even the craft stores... I had a lot laying around so I went with it.
Here is sit wondering what others are coming up with and doing out there. I have been all over the other site and read all the suggestions... Not to much new there. I did sets and scenes for a few productions and some mock up work for fun a few years back... came up with some pretty interesting things.
Anyone interested in shearing ideas, troubles, fixes, and successes?

Well, in my bedroom, it's like a cave. Since I live in an apartment, I can't really paint the walls, so that's out. I have like 1.5 inch thick black curtains, so I can't tell if it's light or dark outside, black laquer furniture, and a black comforter on blue-grey sheets. I am going to put a...um...brainfart, You know..oh, one of those canopies on it. I watch those home makeover shows on how to do one that looks pretty damn good. When I actually remember to get the fabric on a payday that I remember. My room's pretty simple, but if you're going to do a theme, try to stick with the same colors. Like I have a bunch of red candles in there with a couple of oddballs, like a yellow one and a baby blue one. It just don't look right.

I found a really good fabric to make a pretty interesting canopy with actually. Medical rolled gauze. I got a hold of some last week and with a little black RIT dye turned out a nice product. I used it to cover an old privacy screen I had and the left overs as a swag for the curtians that go behind the bed. Tied it in nicely.
If you would like some interesting ideas for wall coverings let me know. Candles, the options are limited to the specific purpose for what the candle will be burned for. I am working on a few ideas to get some more candles and lighting going. I can;t seem to get the feel I want right yet but it is a lot of placement and what type of candle to use.

Man, I wish we paint apartment rooms. A bluish gunmetal grey would be a great start for the wall color of a room.
If you want to add a nice decorative feel to a room, get the cheap "rot-iron" garden pieces that look like they belong on a gate to a mansion and frame your doorway with it. Probably want to paint it black if it's not already. I'll post a couple of sample pics of what I mean by this later.

To aid in searching... it's "wrought iron."

Well the description of the Iron Window Dressings I want to order ( in my dreams) is as follows;
Mexican Architecture Accents, Rod Iron Over Wooden Shutters;
So when I saw "Rot" iron, I checked the pic in my Fantasy Architecture folder, and and made sure it said " Rod Iron" and not " Rot Iron"
So I want a nose too for being HALF right..
I'll stick it right by my left nipple...
It'll really WIG the Doctors out the next time I go to the Hospital..

Trystan Bass used to have a site called "Gothic Martha Stewart." You could Google that.
I have a million and one dark decorating ideas - I actually keep a journal of them as they come to me. If only I had 100 houses, I might be able to implement them all.
A few simple ideas, mostly of the RomantiGoth or TragiGoth variety:
Tulle and netting are available at fabric stores and at Wal-Mart for cheap (usually less than $2 per yard). Yards of netting are perfect for making swag valances over windows and canopies over beds.
Cover the tops of tables, dressers, and chests with black velvet (red velvet topped with black lace looks great, too). It gives a rich look while also protecting your furniture from candle wax.
Cover a corkboard or cork squares with fabric - again, velvet is good - and use them on your walls to display your jewelry. Why hide fabulous jewelry in a box or drawer when you can hang it for all to see?
Use a Vellux (that's a name brand) blanket as a bedspread. It has a great velvet look and feel, but it's washable and won't pick up lint like real velvet.
Frame tarot cards, either individually in small frames or as a spread in a larger frame. Use fabric as a background.
If you can't paint your walls, try running a strong string or wire through cup hooks or eye hooks along the top of the wall, then hanging big swaths of fabric on the string.
And I agree with the suggestion to stick with just one or two colors for candles.

Ooooohhhh!!! I just thought it was Rot Iron as in rusty aged iron. But wrought iron makes so much more sense.

Well the garage is getting cleaned up. The saws and sewing machine are ready to go and the welder and torch are on order... hehehe... We'll see what I can come up with. I saw an iteresting wrought iron fence around a small cemetery once. I am going to attempt to replicate that for a headboard and foot board. I had a nice Chenille beadspread that once dyed gave an incredible look to the entire room. It was blue and dyed black. The color it actually turned out was amazing. I went a little light on the dye to try it out.
I am interested in the more off the wall or DIY type things that are not already posted out there. Quite a few of the things I have turned out have come from mistakes and using what I have on hand. I have painted and entire picture once with a tooth brush and q-tips after my only brushes were ruined.

pictures
Hi guys!
For a school project (I'm studying interior design) I need some pictures of interiors in gothic style. But it's hard to find...
So would anybody photograph his or her room to help me out? You can send those pictures to gaaiquov@************
That would be great!
Tnx

We are doing some redecorating at home. We have a Santa Fe type southwest house and it's more of a mix of various ethnic looking stuff at the moment, I am still really behind (moved here about 6 months ago) on getting i together. I bought this last week...
http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/prod...U=112467&RN=22
and like it a lot so far (still waiting on the stained glass lamps from target, there is a similar one at Target (I think, it may be Macy's I looked for too long and have my stores mixed up) but it is more a silvery background with the black velvet and I am thinking of ordering that one for the guest room. Still trying to pick out paint colors for a few rooms. We are having a very dark distressed wood flooring put in next week. Also looking for some black velvet curtains, I think I may have to have them made for our size window.
I will take a pic when it is done, but will be a few weeks before it's all together.

Ok, my fingers are faster than my brain today apparently, sorry if the above is not making a lot of sense...anyway, wanted to add the lamps that are coming now that I found the link. Mainly to give off a reddish hue to the room, that and I adore stained glass.
