This week’s Face Off gave us a cute mom connection, but it was also a bit heartbreaking. There’s so much talent this season that every cut seems unjust. Everyone tromps out to the L.A. Arboretum (I think?) to look at plants and learn they have to design a Mother Nature goddess figure, and include some aspect inspired by their own mothers. This gives us a chance to see adorable photos of everyone with their moms. I loved seeing Miranda as a kid in her little […]

There is a glut of alt makeup tutorials on Youtube: goth, emo, zombie, alien, horror FX, split face, etc. Some TUTs are extremely detailed and helpful for you to use to create the look you seek or simply to view for entertainment. Others are lame video fails. Let me tell you about this amazing FX artist I found when I was cruising for the best Killer Clown makeup tutorial, Melissa Bernard! Melissa is a certified make-up artist (MUA), not just a girl who paints her […]

Now, let’s turn to Face/Off Season 2 champion Rayce Bird, who took top honors with a three-part design that depicted a trio cosmic beings representing light, darkness, and a transitional phase. At Gothic.net HQ, we love dark literature and horror movies . . . and spooky makeup tutorials and velvet frocks. A lot of people like all of those things, but a lot of people tend to kind of like either the former or the latter. Although Gothic.net will continue to cover the occasional exemplary gothic fashion item, in the interests of setting things up for you to see what you want to see, we are launching a gothic style sister site at Gothic.org. Gothic.org will […]

Blue Blood just posted some DragonCon costume pics. I’m especially loving this fae zombie monster king outfit. I wonder how long that took to put on. I was very active in East Coast fandom from the time I was very underage (but old enough to get into mischief), until I moved to California. It was a lot of fun. I tended to spell shirt L-I-N-G-E-R-I-E and regularly get in trouble with con security over my (lack of) attire and non-peacebonded weapons. This also meant I […]

SyFy is doing a show called Face Off. If you love monster movie special effects makeup, they are talking to you. The concept appears to be Project Runway if every day is Halloween.
