Us – A Vile Untethering

Us is a horror movie that stars Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, Shahadi Wright Joseph, Evan Alex, Elisabeth Moss, and Tim Heidecker, and is directed by Jordan Peele. It tells the tale of a family that, while on a vacation at their beach house, gets attacked by a group of people that show up out of nowhere, and they seem to want nothing other than to get rid of them. To their surprise, these people are exact copies of them.

As they are being chased by these alternate versions of themselves, they realize they are not the only ones being attacked by their doppelgangers, as their neighbors also face their own horror, and it is later revealed that there are millions of copies all around the world, making a statement about wanting to be free from the tethers and the life of suffering and loneliness that they were trapped in.

In the end, Us is a horror movie that contains a lot of details you want to pay attention to during the story that hint at possible future reveals, it has sections where a scene may look odd, until you realize that it has a payoff in the end. The horror scenes have a disquieting atmosphere, not just from the horrors on the screen, but also because of the music that accompanies each moment of action that keeps you on the edge of your seat as you see the characters fighting for their lives and finding out more about the true nature of their copies, their place in the world, and their motivations.
