Game of Thrones – Mhysa
Game of Thrones’ season three finale sounds some powerful emotional notes, but also leaves you wondering just where this story is headed. Perhaps some true “good guys” have emerged from the piles of the dead and dying. Before I dig too deep into this week’s episode, I want to have one last say about the Red Wedding. I was a bit stunned at the number of people who responded with outrage and declared they’d no longer watch the show because of it. I think this… Read More »
Game of Thrones – The Rains of Castamere
On a very special Game of Thrones, Robb Stark helps a school friend deal with addiction. Meanwhile, the rest of the Westeros gang have various misadventures while on a shopping spree. None of that is true, but, you know, spoilers. This was the big one, the episode everyone who’s read the books has been waiting for. Even George R.R. Martin has said he couldn’t wait for the show to reach this point. Meanwhile, we’ve all been desperately trying not to spoil it, obtusely talking about… Read More »
Crystal Brush Awards Offer Impressive Prizes to Miniature Painters
Collecting and painting miniatures has been a part of the gaming hobby for decades. Wargamers and RPGers spend hours brushing on the tiniest details to show off at the gaming table. Cool Mini or Not’s Crystal Brush awards allows those efforts to be recognized with some pretty sweet prizes. Cool Mini or Not is loaded with galleries of miniatures painted in exquisite detail and lovingly photographed. They also manufacture and distribute several lines of miniatures. To celebrate the art of mini painting, they created the… Read More »
Game of Thrones – Second Sons
Game of Thrones is a good show, there’s no questioning that. And when it’s firing on all cylinders, like this week, it’s a great show. It’s difficult at times to discern the direction of this season of Game of Thrones. Season two was all about a war, and all the action drove toward the climactic Battle of the Blackwater. This season, that war (like so many real wars) has disintegrated into an aimless, pointless debacle. It’s hard to even remember there’s a war on, since… Read More »
Game of Thrones – The Bear and the Maiden Fair
On Game of Thrones, love hurts. Ooooooooooh, love hurts. Love (and lust) makes people do foolish things sometimes, and on Game of Thrones, the consequences are never minor. Tyrion, for instance, is clearly deluded about his relationship with Shae, both in terms of it actually working out as he sees it (her living happily in a house in King’s Landing), and in terms of Shae being happy about it. She acknowledges all the b.s. in his reasoning in both regards, noting that Tywin would kill… Read More »
Game of Thrones – The Climb
This week, Game of Thrones gets dark. Oh, you thought it was dark already? That’s adorable. It probably seems redundant to say that a given episode of Game of Thrones is filled with betrayal. It’s sort of Game of Thrones’ thing. But this week, everyone got betrayed. There was seriously a lot of betrayal. Jon Snow and the wildlings are preparing to scale the Wall. Ygritte gets a little clingy, telling Jon after one night in a hot tub that she’s his woman and that… Read More »
The Following, episode 15, The Final Chapter
Well, here we are, folks. It’s the end of season one of The Following. Things aren’t looking so good for Hardy and especially Agent Parker and Claire. And with Carroll severely wounded, this is anyone’s game. Let’s see how it will play out, shall we? “The Final Chapter” opens with Hardy and the FBI review footage from the attack on the center, they ID one of the followers, Alex, and also make the connection that Carroll has brought to life some of Poe’s better known… Read More »
Game of Thrones – Kissed by Fire
Game of Thrones gives us one of those episodes where pieces move around the board (literally, in this case) to be set up for whatever terrible fate awaits them in the future. At the same time, we get a glimpse into the sweeping, tragic past that the Song of Ice & Fire grows from. In the Brothers Without Banners’ secret hideout, Sandor Clegane and Beric Dondarrion prepare for a trial by combat. Beric takes up his sword and somehow causes it to burst into flame,… Read More »
The Following, episode 14, The End is Near
Here goes Carroll watching more Hardy porn. As we are watching the full-fledged spiraling descent of what little sanity Carroll had left, we are also seeing him hanging on with a gossamer thin thread to what remains of his beloved followers. He may be dying with that gut wound, and now he comes back to Emma, begging for forgiveness, needing her help, wanting her trust, but I think we all know that she definitely can’t be trusted. With Joey’s description of the house, Hardy and… Read More »
Lost Girl – The Wanderer
Lost Girl’s season finale reveals the details of Isaac’s sinister scheme: he wants humanity to ascend to an new level of terrible acting. For some reason the first few minutes of this episode felt really abrupt and detached. I had the strange feeling I’d missed an episode. But no. It was just weird. Some girls from the kitsune sorority act ditzy and slutty and reveal that Tamsin is at the end of her valkyrie life cycle. They also mention to Bo that Tamsin is involved… Read More »
