Panel of Experts: How do you feel fiction-writing and screen-writing compare?
Game of Thrones: Blood of My Blood-y Hell
After last week’s chilling plot reveals, I think we’re all waiting with baited breath to see what the heck will happen now on HBO’s Game of Thrones. This week we slam directly into Bran’s head as he experiences the omni-flashback. Without Hodor, poor Meera is left to lug Bran through the winter woods without any help. Bran’s head goes through a bunch of seemingly disconnected moments of history (but it’s clearly hinting at something to do with burning all the White Walkers) until he finally… Read More »
Game of Thrones: The Doo(-mg)r
Well dang, Martin, been planning this one for a while, have you? On this week’s episode of Game of Thrones, Sansa gets a letter asking her to meet with Littlefinger in Moletown. Baelish is either stupid (doubtful) or conniving, as he plays dumb with Sansa regarding the Boltons. The writing is, frankly, wildly disappointing. Sansa deserves so much better than they’re giving her. Meanwhile Arya had her sight back and is still struggling with the staves fighting. She stays with it though, refusing to throw… Read More »
Game of Thrones: Book of The Stranger Than You
Welcome back to HBO’s Game of Thrones. This week I got a tattoo in honor of Arya (It’s a sword with “Not Today” written around it. It’s pretty cool. Yes, my parents are disappointed.) and I didn’t even see her! What gives? But this week we did get to see the reunions we’ve all been waiting for — Jon and Sansa! She rolls into Castle Black and they hug and they talk about when they were kids and I have a lot of feelings. Sansa… Read More »
Game of Thrones: O-(shit)-athbreaker
On this week’s episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones, I’m already stressed by the episode hints. Whenever they show stuff from old seasons as the teaser, I worry. We start off on FrankenJon. And Kit Herrington’s booty. Can’t complain about that I guess. Yes, surprising no one, Jon is back from the dead and freaking out about it. Melisandre thinks Jon is the chosen one now, not Stannis. The Wildlings think he’s a god. There’s a lot of manhugging, which is refreshingly lower on the… Read More »
Game of Thrones, Home Again Home Again Lickity Split
It’s good to see Bran again. We start off episode two of season six of Game of Thrones with a hella flashback. It’s Bran watching the memory of his father and brother, and the aunt he never knew, as children in Winterfell. It’s pretty sad when you think about it. Hodor is there, like a scene from Wizard of Oz, and his name was Willas – and he could talk! I think this is a bigger and worse book spoiler than anything last episode. Back… Read More »
Game of Thrones: The Red and Ready Woman
Yikes. Welcome back to HBO’s hit series, Game of Thrones. It’s a new season and I’m here to rant and ramble at you about it! Let’s get started. Zoom in on Jon Snow being all dead, wolves are suspiciously howling in the background. I’m just going to assume that they’re saying “Warg” in wolf. The Blackcloaks who bring in his body are tense and you can’t blame them, since, like, half of them just went and stabbed their Lord Commander. But of course we have… Read More »
Dark Humor Zine BLT Kickstarter Closing Soon
Edgy punk and underground humor zine Black Leather Times is compiling all their many issues into one huge compendium, with help from crowdfunding leader Kickstarter and we’re looking forward to getting our hands on the project. One of my favorite issues is all about cannibalism and includes detailed ‘How To’ instructions on making authentic shrunken heads, along with some hilariously creepy serial killer quotes and coverage to spice things up a bit. I don’t see the cannibalism cover among the t-shirts available to supporters yet,… Read More »
BLT Colorful Bleach Process Punk Shirts for Migraine Sufferers
The BLT Kickstarter added a bunch of in-your-face shirt designs today. The art is so over-the-top and I love the themes. These are apparently going to use some sort of soft screenprinting process which utilizes bleach, so they won’t have any thick plastic feel. My favorites from this batch are the straitjacket guy with his brain exposed for examination and the Coffee is my drug guy with his head exploding. I don’t even have a migraine today, but those just speak to me. Of course,… Read More »
BLT Black Leather Times Zine Book and Tshirts
Old skool goths probably remember the little BLT humor zines from conventions. Each issue had hilarious, witty, and sarcastic writing and really cool artwork. Content ranged from goth-industrial club reviews to quizzes on how to tell if you are dating a vampire (spoiler: you are not dating a vampire.) My favorite parts were probably the bad advice columns and the band interview outtakes with funny things that happened while interviewing bands such as Nine Inch Nails, Die Warzau, Frontline Assembly, GBH, Dread Zeppelin, and more.… Read More »
Kudoku
Carnivore Studio is developing Kodoku for the Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita: a horror and exploration game which is a mish-mash of Lovecraftian elements and Japanese folklore. The teaser video is unsettling, weird, because the animation depicts all kinds of disturbing images where man and beast are combined. Mostly, the head of the creature features that of a person. Pigs feast on corpses while a scorpion-man holds his prey. Insects fly out of someone’s mouth. The teaser video soundtrack features drums and chimes that capture… Read More »
