Panel of Experts: How do you feel fiction-writing and screen-writing compare?
Game of Thrones Episode 210, Valar Morghulis
After the explosive battle and brilliant writing of last week’s Battle of Blackwater, season two of Game of Thrones ends with…a flaccid anti-climax, the result of juggling too many plot lines and adding a few meaningless ones for good measure. It’s not that this episode didn’t have some cool moments, and it’s not that I don’t feel for the writers who had the unenviable task of trying to untangle all these plots and cast new lines for next season. I mean, I love Ros as… Read More »
House Lannister & Credits Song on Blackwater Game of Thrones
BlueBlood.net reported the info on the song from Episode 209 of Game of Thrones tonight and, based on how many people were asking, it seemed you might want to know the answer. You’re welcome. For all the people searching for what the song at the end of Game of Thrones tonight was, here you go: The song is The Rains of Castomere performed by the band The National with lyrics by George R. R. Martin. According to the Westeros wiki (beware spoilers at that site),… Read More »
Game of Thrones Episode 209, Blackwater
This Memorial Day weekend, celebrate the Battle of Blackwater with an episode penned by GRRM himself, a brilliant bit of epic fantasy and pseudo-medieval warfare, all lit by the wildfire’s green glare. There were a lot of amazing things in this episode, but the one element that really stood out to me was how wonderfully self-contained it was. The entire hour was focused on a single storyline: the preparations at King’s Landing, the arrival of Stannis’ fleet, and the battle as Stannis tries to take… Read More »
Necronomicon Fanzine
Looking through some of the links to things related to the annual Whitby Goth Weekend, which appropriately occurs around Halloween each year, along with the related Bram stoker Film Festival which is held somewhat concurrently and ran across this fun little horror zine from the UK called the Necronomicon Fanzine. If you are into cult Horror cinema and quirky zines, this one looks like a good addition to your collection. You could pick it up when you go to the Bram stoker Film Festival and… Read More »

Last Night for Panel of Experts Cecilia Tan Kickstarter Book
The Kickstarter for Panel of Experts member Cecilia Tan is coming to a close in only ten hours. Gothic.net has the night owls, so this probably schedules out just right. Daron’s Guitar Chronicles is a trilogy about coming of age in the 1980’s while being different. The Daron’s Guitar Chronicles Omnibus Book has already been successful, but there are still additional perks like special online chats and extra-fine paper quality, which will be added in if enough people participate. I’m Cecilia Tan, I’m a writer… Read More »

Game of Thrones Episode 208, The Prince of Winterfell
On the eve of war, Tywin marches, Stannis sails, Tyrion schemes, and Theon is belittled by his sister. Oh, and Nurse Pointless gets naked with the King in the North, possibly earning herself a new nickname. Let’s knock a few of the lesser plotlines out of the way quickly: nothing of significance happened in Qarth (so why did they waste our time with Dany and Jorah?); Jaime and Brienne begin their journey back to King’s Landing/the best buddy cop show on TV right now; Jon… Read More »

Panel of Experts: Readings and Signings
Question: Do you like doing readings and signings? Interestingly, more than three quarters of us like or mostly like doing reading and/or signings. For some of us readings and signings are a crucial way of staying in touch with the people who read our work, an up-close-and-personal method for getting a sense of what the readers enjoy and what does not move them. We like being in front of an audience who cares about what we do. When Gothic.net asked the Panel of Experts this… Read More »
